How does Reflexology work?

Updated: Mar 22, 2020

All your bodily systems are reflected in the feet, and by applying pressure to these points the body's healing response is stimulated. In a nutshell, that is, let's get deeper into it. Your Meridian lines, your energy lines all end up in the feet, and hands, and start from the top of your head. Sometimes the energy in the meridians don't flow as smoothly, which can result in an imbalance in an organ, or a weakness in a system. By working on the feet and unblocking these, the energy flows again and the body is able to self heal. This is similar to the way Acupuncture works at strengthening the 'chi' energy in the body.

Whilst your reflexes are being stimulated you enter into a deep sense of relaxation. This switches your flight or fight mode (sympathetic nervous system) to the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and repair mode. Here is where your body get's the chance to kick start the healing response, and re-balances your sysytem.

Reflexology is a holistic therapy, meaning it works on all levels, physically, mentally, emotionally, and for some, spiritually. As our feet become out of balance, any of these layers could be affected, and also stimulated into healing through reflexology. It has a beautifully gentle action on our emotions and I have seen many emotional improvements from my clients, ranging from grief, trauma, anxiety, and depression.

There is a direct link with our emotions and physical symptoms, if emotions are not processed and suppressed it can often manifest as a physical symptom. Same as our thoughts can have a huge effect on our health and wellbeing, be that they are mostly negative or positive.

Reflexology is a beautiful therapy, that gives gentle and effective healing. My clients who experience reflexology for the first time are amazed how relaxed it makes them feel, and often comment on the overall grounding effect it has on them.

Please feel free to email or give me a call if you want to further discuss how reflexology can help to bring your health back into balance.
